Solving Problems and Exceeding Expectations

Fire extinguishers are one of your first lines of defense in a fire. That’s why they’re required by law to be serviced and recertified once a year, and recharged according to regulations, by a fire protection service company.

We sell, install, service, inspect, and maintain all classes and ratings of dry chemical, water, foam, wet chemical, clean agent and carbon dioxide (CO2) fire extinguishers.

For extinguishers scheduled for recharge (per NFPA/DOT regulations), we use a Getz unit in our shop that discharges extinguishers, properly measures the chemicals and refills them in an efficient process.

It’s also recommended that you check your extinguishers monthly on your own to make sure they’re operating properly. You’ll want to check the following:

Fire Extinguishers

TYPES OF FIRE EXTINGUISHERS AND THEIR USES FOR FIRE

Pressurized Water Extinguishers

These are used for Class A fires (ordinary combustibles, such as paper, wood and plastic). These extinguishers include, water mist and water extinguishers.

Carbon Dioxide Extinguishers

Rated for Class B (flammable liquids, such as gasoline, kerosene and diesel fuel) & Class C fires (electrical fires).

Dry Chemical Extinguishers

These include ABC dry chemical extinguishers, BC dry chemical extinguishers, Purple K dry chemical and Class D (combustible metals) dry powder.

The ABC dry chemical extinguisher is a multipurpose extinguisher rated for Class A, B and C fires.

Wet Chemical Extinguishers

Not to be confused with water extinguishers, these are used in kitchen fire suppression, and rated for Class K fires (grease fires from animal fat and vegetable oils).

Clean Agent

An example of a clean agent is Halotron. Rated for Class B & C fires. Also can be rated for Class A, B and C in the right size.

Note: Some fires can be a combination of the above. For example, a fire inside a wall may be a wood fire (Class A) and an electrical fire (Class C) or it’s possible to have an electrical fire that ignites flammable liquids. That’s why often the best first choice is ABC dry chemical powder that covers Class A, B & C fires.
