What is hydrostatic testing?
Hydrostatic testing, also called hydro-testing, is required by the Department of Transportation to check the integrity of pressurized metal cylinders, including fire extinguishers, scuba tanks, CO2 cylinders and oxygen cylinders
Fire extinguishers such as dry chemical extinguishers typically need to be tested every 12 years while CO2 cylinders and pressurized water extinguishers are retested every five years. Most high pressure cylinders need to be tested between three and five years. Information can be found in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).
